U.S. Hosts Libyan Delegation to Discuss Stability, Economic Partnership.

Washington, D.C. — April 28, 2025 — Senior U.S. officials met Monday with a Libyan delegation led by Lt. General Saddam Haftar, envoy of the General Commander of the Libyan National Army, for talks at the State Department aimed at advancing stability and economic cooperation in Libya.

The meeting, hosted by Senior Bureau Official Tim Lenderking, Senior Advisor Massad Boulos, and Special Envoy Richard Norland, focused on shared goals for a secure, unified, and prosperous Libya. Both sides emphasized the importance of strong technocratic institutions—including the National Oil Corporation and the Central Bank of Libya—as vital to fostering a business-friendly environment and strengthening ties with U.S. companies.

U.S. officials reiterated their support for engaging leaders from both western and eastern Libya and pledged continued backing for Libyan-led efforts to unify military institutions and reinforce national sovereignty.
