The Libyan coastal city of Benghazi witnessed a grand opening of Benghazi International Stadium, the stadium that remained closed for nearly sixteen years due to neglect
The celebration included various artistic events and the opening witnessed a match between many of the world’s leading football stars, including Brazilian Roberto Carlos, Portuguese Luis Figo, Michael Owen and Samuel Eto’o.

Benghazi International Stadium, after the development and opening, now accommodates forty thousand spectators.
The head of the Libya Reconstruction Fund also stated that the sports facilities attached to the stadium will be completed and opened soon.
